Terri Welles, an American nude model, was Playmate of the Month in December 1980 and Playmate of the year 1981. Welles was born in Santa Monica, Playboy May 1980 issue cover, She was wearing a flight attendant costume as a pictorial about stewardesses. (Welles was at that time a United Airlines stewardess). In the December 1980 issue, she was a centerfold and was named Playmate for the Year 1981. Richard Fegley took her original pictorial.
In 1981, Charlie Simmer, an NHL ice hockey player, married Welles. They divorced in 1986. Welles had a daughter.
Welles launched an online business selling photos of herself in 1997. She described herself on her website as a former Playboy model, and Playmate. Playboy Enterprises sued Welles in 1998. It claimed that it was the only one entitled to commercial use of the trademark terms “Playboy”, “Playmate of the Year” and other related terms. Playboy Enterprises, Inc. v. Welles was the result. Virtually all Welles’ use of the terms was considered non-infringement and therefore did not infringe.
Welles announced that her Web site had been “a fun ride” on October 31, 2006.
